We arrived in Romania in early June 1995. We lived in the home of Garry Matheny for about 1 month while we sought a place to live in the city of Sfântu Gheorghe. A month later we moved to an apartment in that city.

Our ministry during this first 2 1/2 years was to help establish the church that was being planted in Sfântu Gheorghe, make weekly trips to Onești for services at the Culture house, teach each Saturday at the Bible Institute in Bușteni, and help out as needed in other works that were being established. All this was under the guidance of Missionary Garry Matheny.

We took our first furlough in November of 1997 until May 1998. We were in the Sates for 7 months. When we returned we filled in for Bro. Matheny in Bușteni for 7 months during his furlough. During that time I was in charge of his main church in Bușteni as well as the Institute. I also oversaw the other church planting ministries.

After Bro. Matheny returned to the field in January 1999, I then moved to Puciuosa to fill in for another missionary, Robin Burnett, who was also working with our group. During this time I oversaw the church in Puciuosa, taught in the Institute in Bușteni, and helped in other church-planting endeavors as needed. While overseeing the church in Puciuosa I was able to secure and remodel a church building that they used for the next 12 years. The Burnett family returned to the field in July and we stayed with the Matheny family until August when our house was ready in Onesti.

During our time in Puciuosa we began to look for a place to live in the Onesti area so that we could take over the small work that had been started back in 1995. In June I was able to buy a house in a village outside of Onesti. From June to mid-August I travelled each week to the village and remodeled the house. In August we moved to the Onesti area to start our ministry.

At the beginning of our ministry in Onesti we met in the Culture house. The ministry began to grow and we needed a place of our own to meet. In the spring of 2000 I began to look for a building or house for sale in Onesti. With the help of several churches in the US, we were able to purchase a small uncompleted two-story building that fall. By the spring of 2001 we partially completed the building and began to have services. During our first year in Onesti we also began to hold services in several villages: Mârcești, Conți, and Bâlca.

Summary of our Ministry

In November of 2001 we returned to the US for another short furlough. We returned to the field in June 2002. From our return until Susanna’s accident in Nov. 2004 we continued to work in the ministries in and around Onesti. We started a Bible Institute and would go into other villages around the area and hold evangelistic services. We completed the church building during this term and worked at developing our young people. It was also during this time that I found that I needed to cut back on some of the village services because of the toll it was taking on me physically. I stopped having services in Bâlca and began to have services in Conti only once a week. I continued the service in Mârcești but during the winter I was not able have services there because of the remote location and lack of good roads.

We were forced to take a medical furlough from Dec. 2004 until September 2005 because the accident my daughter had when she lost her right hand. She had 3 surgeries in Romania before returning to the US and then three more reconstructive surgeries while in Arkansas.

When we returned to the field we continued our ministries and soon another missionary joined us. In 2006 - 2007 we built him a house. In 2008 -2009 we built my house. In the fall of 2009 we took our next furlough and returned June 1st 2010.

Our ministry in Onești and Mârcești have continued as well as taking over the ministry of another missionary who left the field in January of 2012. This new ministry is in Târgu Ocna, a small city about 20 minutes from where we live.

Other ministries we have participated in or run during our time in Romania include:
Helping other ministries with construction.
Helping with and directing a teen summer camp and evangelistic campaigns.
Preaching and teaching for other missionaries and national pastors as God has opened the doors.

Please continue to pray for our family as we serve God in the Country of Romania.

Please pray specifically for:
More laborers for the harvest.
Souls to be saved
Health and Safety
Traveling safety
